Overview of Costa Rica

Capital: San Jose

Language: Spanish

Currency: Costa Rican Colón (1 USD = 565 CRC)

Costa Rica, the “Rich Coast” was colonized by Spain since the 1500s, then from the Mexican Empire and the Republic of Central America until its independence in 1847. It is between Nicaragua and Panama, and between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The flora and fauna in this country are also very diverse.

This country is the most popular nation to visit in Central America, it practices ecotourism and is paving its way to become carbon neutral. Most of the people in Costa Rica are mestizos and Roman Catholics. It is also one of the happiest countries in the world. Come and visit one of the most progressive and greenest countries in the world.

Going to Costa Rica

You can go by bus from Nicaragua or Panama. If you want to use the plane, you can have a flight from Mexico, Canada, the US, Europe (France, London, Spain, Germany) and many more. For those from the Philippines, you may want to book a flight from the US to Costa Rica. However, you may need a US Visa for that.

There are many volcanoes in Costa Rica, every one of them offers adventures and stunning views. The most popular volcanoes are Arenal, Irazu, Poás, Rincón de la Vieja, or Turrialba Volcanos. You can go to the top and see the crater, but hope it won’t erupt during your visit.

2. Go to Ostional National Wildlife Refuge

Visit the Ostional National Wildlife Refuge where a hundred thousand Olive Ridley turtles hatch their eggs. It is a well-preserved area and you’ll definitely have an amazing experience. See the turtles swim, dig their nest, lay eggs then hide it before returning for to the sea! You’ll get lucky if you see baby turtles, too!

3. Pick between 28 National Parks and Reserves in Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a green country and is one of the best in preservation and eco-tourism. Among the 28, the Area de Conservacion Guanacaste, Cocos Island National Park, Talamanca Range-La Amistad Reserve, and National Park are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You will truly enjoy the country and proud of its efforts in conservation!

Enjoy the rich coast of Costa Rica by relaxing or enjoying their beaches. The famous ones are Conchal Beach, Manuel Antonio Beach, Tamarindo Beach, Flamingo Beach but there are still many more. Prepare your swimming attire as you enjoy the white/golden sand beaches and the crystal blue waters of this nation.

5. Snorkel or scuba dive at Gulf of Papagayo or Isla del Caño

Not only is Costa Rica rich in wildlife but also it has an abundance of marine life. Go to either Gulf of Papagayo or Isla del Caño to snorkel and dive in the clear waters. The corals and reefs are healthy and you could see schools of fishes, sharks, turtles, rays, and many more!

6. Check out the enchanting Rio Celeste

The Celeste River is located in Tenorio Volcano National Park. It has waterfalls and hot springs, but what you will truly love is the sky blue river that feels like its not real. The interesting color is actually due to bacteria and volcano minerals. It’s a treasure!
