Overview of Haiti

Capital: Port-au-Prince
Language: French, Haitian Creole
Currency: Haitian Gourde (1 USD = 99 HTG)

The republic of Haiti is an island nation in the Caribbean that shares its island with the Dominican Republic. Discovered by the great explorer, Christopher Colombus, he initially thought this is India or China (but obviously is not.) Spanish claimed this, then the French and gained its independence in 1804.

Haiti’s culture is colorful and diverse, with a lovely mixture of Taino (the main dwellers), Spanish, French, and African. Haitian art is also prized as it has bright colors and a humorous character. There is also a UNESCO World Heritage site in this archipelagic country and it’s not a beach or a national park but has something to do with the first monarch in Haiti. Discover the wonders of gorgeous Haiti.

Going to Haiti

The main airport in Haiti is the Toussaint Louverture International Airport which is in the capital, Port-au-Prince. Besides flights from other Carribean Countries, there are flights from The USA, Canada (Montreal), and Europe (France).

From the Philippines, you can get a flight to the USA and then go to Haiti. You will need a US Visa, however, for your trip. You can also travel by land from the Dominican Republic or go on a Caribbean cruise. You can read my travel guide to Cap Haitien, Haiti during my last visit.
