Overview of Vanuatu

Capital: Port Vila

Vanuatu was once under Spanish rule in the 1600s and the French and British rule in the 1800s. It became independent in 1980. The name became Vanuatu from the words Vanua and Tu meaning home/land and stand, respectively.

Vanuatu is a nation in the Pacific; that is located in the northeast of Australia, North of New Zealand, and west of Fiji. There fourteen big islands, Espiritu Santo being the largest, and Efate being the 3rd on size and having the capital, Port Vila.

Like most tropical countries, it has two seasons - the sunny and rainy season. November to February are the rainy months. The highest temperature is about 30 degrees, so you can bring your hats, sunscreens, or sunglasses during your stay.

Vanuatu has unlimited seafood, fresh fruits and vegetables, and their organic, tender beef. Coffee from their cacaos and local beer, Tusker, is a must when coming. Ni-Vanuatu (People from Vanuatu) are known to be very friendly and welcoming, so you would definitely enjoy your stay.

Vanuatu has 6 blue holes; most are in Espiritu Santo. You can go to Riri, Matevulu, Nanda, Malo, Hog Harbor or Blue Lagoon - you will absolutely love it!

Once a luxury liner having a route from San Francisco, USA - Japan, China, and the Philippines, this turned into a Military Ship during World War II. Because of a mine that struck the ship, it unfortunately sunk with 2 casualties. Now, this a famous dive site in Vanuatu - you can see rooms, chandeliers, weapons, and a lady statue. Marine life; like corals and fishes are also seen during your exploration. It’s easy to dive here as it’s near the beach, so you can try your first wreck dive here!
