Montserrat is a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean nicknamed the “Emerald Isle of the Caribbean” due to Irish settlement or the"Pompeii of the Caribbean" due to the volcanic eruption. This place has greatly been affected due to the eruption of the Soufriere Hills Volcano that buried its capital, Plymouth. Qualifications to be Eligible for a Montserrat Digital Nomad Visa

Do you (any of the three)

  • Work for an employer registered in a foreign country (outside Montserrat) and have a contract with that employer? Or;

  • Conduct business activity on a company registered in another country, and you are a partner or shareholder? Or,

  • Offer freelance or consulting services to most clients outside Montserrat and have contracts with them?

Do you earn at least USD 70,000 per year?

Do you have health insurance that’s valid in Montserrat with COVID coverage?

If YES, then you can apply for a Montserrat Remote Work Stamp.

Visa Required Countries

Another note is that you will need to have a visa to Montserrat before applying. This is different than the stamp. The stamp allows you to work remotely, while the visa allows you to enter the territory.

Documents Required for Your Application

1. Valid Passport – a copy of passport biodata page

2. Passport Sized Photo

3. Valid Health Insurance – during your stay. We recommend SafetyWing insurance for digital nomads and remote workers as this can be your country of residence or covers you for long and short trips. They also have COVID Coverage.

4. Proof of Employment or Business Incorporation Certificate – may be work contracts or business registration with your name

5. Proof of Annual Income – it must be at least USD 70,000 a year

6. Police Record

7. Visa if you are required

8. Birth Certificate – optional, but this may speed up the character reference

Additional Requirements per family member

1. Valid Passport – a copy of passport biodata page

2. Passport Sized Photo

3. Proof of Relationship

4. School Enrolment Letter – if schooling online

Steps on applying for a Montserrat Digital Nomad Visa

STEP 1: Gather the requirements above.

STEP 2: Proceed to their website and click “Start My Application.”

STEP 3: Answer everything required.

STEP 4: Upload the documents asked.

STEP 5: Review what you have entered before you submit it.

STEP 6: Pay the visa fee. It’s paid through credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or AMEX.)

STEP 7: Wait for the decision of your application. It’s usually within 7 days but can be up to 14 days should the information be incomplete.

STEP 8: Receive an e-mail with the results of your application. If you are approved, congratulations!

Things to Note:

  • This is good for 12 months only; you can reapply again through this process.

  • Visa Fees are non-refundable

  • There are no nationality restrictions; however, the immigration officers may reject applicants for national security reasons.

  • Tourists are not yet allowed to enter Montserrat, but a Remote Worker and his/her dependents can. You’ll need to submit the Declaration form at least 3 days before you arrive.

  • Foreigners can attend public and private schools in the country. For those aged 5 to 16; education is compulsory.
