Overview of Morocco

Capital: Rabat
Language: Arabic and Berber

The Kingdom of Morocco is an Arab country in North Africa. There are four historical cities in Morocco; Fez, Marrakesh, Meknes, and Rabat. People can also speak French, English and some Spanish, so you don’t have to worry about communication.

When thinking of Morocco, some might think of desert and the heat. Well, let me tell you that Morocco has excellent beaches – some are in the Atlantic Ocean and some are on the Mediterranean Sea. The Kingdom is not a dry country; it has national parks too, – filled with luscious green trees, lakes, rivers, and falls. The Sahara Desert also covers this country, so you can ride in Camels or go sandboarding. There is also snow in Morocco! It snows from January to February regularly. If you want to experience it all, from beaches to forests, to deserts and snow – Morocco is the answer.

Morocco is a Muslim country, so always be respectful of their culture. As they are conservative, don’t walk around the streets to the beach in your bikini or show your shoulders. Men are a bit harsh there; they will cat-call or grab females, so be careful. Public Displays of Affections are a no-no too. Avoid also scams out there, always be alert.

Food in Morocco is exquisite, so you need to try the local cuisine. Couscous is a national delicacy of the Kingdom, so don’t leave the country without eating it. As for street food, if you have sensitive stomachs, double-check the sanitation or cleanliness of the area.

How to Fly to Morocco from the Philippines?

If you are from the Philippines, there are one-stop flights in Middle East Countries such as Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, and United Arab Emirates. There are also flights from European Countries too. Qatar is the only one that requires eVisa or Visa on Arrival as the others need you to have a transit or tourist visa to enter.

What to do in Morocco:

Tour around the ancient city of Marrakech

Jonathan and I did a 4-day motorbike trip around Morocco, and it started with Marrakech. The main attraction of this historic city is the old walled city, the Medina. You would feel like in an Arabian Hollywood movie or a part of Aladdin as you walk in the narrow streets. Don’t forget to shop for unique things in this city.

The second-largest city in the Kingdom, Fez is a less touristy version on Marrakech. It also has a Medina, which is deemed a UNESCO World Heritage site for its cultural and religious characteristics. Check out the architecture of buildings as well as its history in this city.

Trek at High Atlas

The High Atlas Mountains doesn’t only offer you a breathtaking view but cool and refreshing mountain air. If you want to be away from the bustling city and have some exercise and be one with nature, going here is a great experience. During snow season, you could try skiing, that would be adventurous.

Have a Desert Experience

Ride at the back of a camel and experience the charm of desert sand dunes. Jon and I spent a night at Dades Valley in a fully-equipped tent camp in the middle of the desert. Don’t miss the gorgeous sunsets and sunrises offered on this trip.

Outside the beautiful city of Ouarzazate, there lies a place Hollywood movies or series was filmed. Dress like Aladdin or Jasmine as you roam the streets of Agrabah, feel Daenerys Targaryen as you walk the Essos and free the Unsullied, or go back in time as you see Ancient tombs from Egypt. With tours of about USD 5, going through here would also be worth it.

See the blue city of Chefchaouen

In the northwest of Morocco is a magical city colored in Blue. However, the houses aren’t the only attractions since native handicrafts, and goat cheeses are what tourists mostly buy there. Ready your cameras and outfits for many Instagram posts because of your trip here.
