Life On The Road Day 13: Flying with Jetblue from Puerto Rico to JFK New York with our Two Cats

Posted the first part of our check in and pre-flight experience earlier and this is an update on how the cats handled the 4 hour flight. Technically, they travelled for 9 hours as we left our hotel in Ponce at 1am and arrived at my Uncle's house in New Jersey at 10am.

It was better that I imagined.. the cats didn't poop or pee while on the flight.. Little Zissou had an issue at the beginning and been meowing a lot and we thought it was the noise or he's struggling during the take off, even though he had his mini ipad to watch the mouse playing... but then we realized he just wanted to be with Captain Ahab who is just very relaxed and calm. No, we didn't give them any medicine because the Feliway spray wouldn't deliver in Puerto Rico (I got them now!).

After we moved Zissou to Ahab's cat carrier (it was a big bag and can fit two cats).. he immediately relaxed and slept the entire flight hugging his brother! We had to wake them up to move Zissou again for the flight landing.. he started meowing again because he's away from Ahab! 😥

We arrived in JFK and since Mitsubishi Motors / Mitsubishi USA let us borrow one of their latest cars, (a 2019 Outlander Sport to review and test for the entire time we're here) we got a free shuttle ride to pick up our car! So thankful because car rental in New York is so expensive!

The SUV fit all of our 6 suitcases, our cats and handcarry bags! 😂 We then drove for 45 minutes to Belleville, New Jersey as we're staying at my Uncle's house (technically my mom's uncle) who is hosting us for the week.. my uncle cooked Caldereta as I requested it! super happy because it was super yummy!! 😬

We're still busy and have to follow the export protocol of our cats to Germany-- we have to go the Vet on monday to get their new health certificate + signed EU health cert that will cost us $150 per cat accdg to the vet we called! Then Jonathan will have to drive to Albany, New York on Tuesday to get it stamped by the APHIS export office! 😬

This is how you travel with your pets.. maybe more complicated than kids but oh kudos to all the parents who travel with their kids! big respect to you people! 🙏🙏
