Kach Solo Travels in 2017: Crossing the Border from Zambia to Lilongwe, Malawi
I'm still on my solo trip around Africa and I did something cool yesterday. I took public transportation and traveled from Lusaka (Zambia) to Lilongwe (Malawi)! I thought it's only going to be between 9 and 10 hours ride but it turned out to be almost 14 hours of fun and it only cost me $28 for the bus ticket❤️
Though I love staying in luxury hotels nowadays, I still and will always love unplanned adventures! I actually love crossing borders by land rather than flying but flying is always faster and safer though! I decided to just "wing it" on how I can go from Zambia to Malawi and didn't have any idea on how to do it until I arrived a few days ago.. I love solo traveling because I meet a lot of people and yesterday during the bus journey, I met a lot of new friends! We were sharing food, I even looked after a sweet little baby (who didn't cry the entire trip!!) while the mother was busy with the customs (she had a lot of luggage) and the ladies were happy sharing their family stories! 😍
I can say that Zambians are the nicest people I've met during this Africa trip so far (the women are really beautiful too) There were only 2 tourists (one was me!) in the bus because most of them are Zambians and Malawians! One of the ladies who I met is Malawian who is studying medicine in Zambia, she's so lovely and she even offered to drop me at my hotel and told me that she'll show me around later! Woohoo!
My immigration experience- As a Philippines passport, I was able to get a visa on arrival to enter MALAWI by paying USD$75 (cash only!) and just filling out a form and my passport for the stamp! Yep, that's it! I think if you will arrive via the airport, you'd need to show other documents such as the yellow fever vaccine (which I have), hotel booking, and onward flight ticket.
Anyway, time to do my laundry for now before going around Lilongwe, and tomorrow I'm off to Lake Malawi!
P.S. Jonathan spent 5 years of his childhood living here in Malawi and he said that the people here are incredibly nice! 😍
