Kach Solo Travels in 2017: Drove to the ARTA Region, Djibouti, overlooking the Red Sea! ❤️
It's my last week in Africa to wrap up my 2-month solo trip!
I arrived the other day and I've done and seen a lot of things already, thanks to my Pinay friend, Gladsy who helped me go around by introducing another local Djiboutian friend names Osman! Such a smart young guy who speaks 5 languages (how I wish I have that skills).. nothing much to do in the city so we drove to the ARTA region which is an hour away from Djibouti City. There's a beautiful viewpoint overlooking the Red Sea!
If you're not familiar with where Djibouti is, it's on the North-Eastern side of Africa (Horn of Africa), I uploaded a photo of the map! It's bordered Somalia, Eritrea, and Ethiopia and they have the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden which is controlling the busiest shipping lanes.. there's also a lot of Military camps here so you'll meet a lot of Europeans mostly French people since it used to be their territory until 40 years ago.
It's expensive here compared to other African countries but luckily our local friend brought us to local markets and restaurants! I also processed my visa to enter Somaliland (an Independent State of Somalia, actually it's a country but not recognized by the Western world).. will post another one for that! I still don't have my clothes/luggage so I have to borrow clothes from Gladsy that I can use for my Somaliland trip. oops!
P.S. Most Nationalities can get visa on arrival in Djibouti by paying $90 for a single entry 30 days visa but the Immigration Official are quite strict with interviews and requirements. One tip I've learned during this trip esp when you're traveling long term is to keep all the boarding passes and bring a LOT of US dollars! Ha!
