Sailing Life Day 61 and 62: Returning to our Sailboat in Luperon and adopting a new kitten!

I know people warned us about adopting another one for the boat but it felt really sad for our Captain Ahab to be on his own whenever we travel away from him and also we wanted to have this local kitten a better home.

We drove all the way back on April 26 (Thursday) from Punta Cana to Luperon but we stopped in Sto.Domingo (the capital) to get Jonathan’s fingerprint /photo for his USA Visa Application! Yep, he needed a USA visa now as well though he has a British passport! British can enter the States on ESTA (visa that they can apply only very easily) but only when you’ll travel by plane but if by a private sailboat then you need a B1/B2 visa just like me! He had to wait for almost 2 hours in line.. now he knows the feeling of what I always have to experience when processing my own tourist visa! Haha 🤪

We arrived late at night back to S/V Empress and welcomed by a very happy Meow of Captain Ahab! Our friend, Sabrina, looked after him while we’re away and she said she can petsit Captain Ahab when we travel! I think we’ll only go on another trip together but next time, Jonathan is just happy to stay on the boat! Hahaha!

The next morning (Day 62), we immediately went to the local family’s house to adopt the kitten than they want to giveaway.. we were supposed to get the black and white female but she’s quite ferocious so we took the male orange tabby.. he’s 2 months old and already eating cat food!

Brought him to the boat but had to separate from Captain Ahab first... he’s on the bedroom while Ahab was freely moving around the boat and watching him! We had to wash the new kitten as well since he has a lot of fleas, we need to treat him!

So, that’s it folks.. we’re definitely staying longer here in Dominican Republic (while I’ll be traveling a lot in between) now that we committed to having two sailing kittens! We have to wait for the new kitten to grow a little bit older to neuter, get all the vaccines and documentation to sail around the world! ⛵️Well, our initial plan for this trip is to sail all the way to Colombia since we want to be back and based there again - the culture, language and cost of living. But it’s so much like here in Dominican Republic but it’s cheaper here with secure anchorage for our sailboat during the Hurricane season.

I can feel that they’ll become best friends since Ahab is just watching the new kitten play with his toys but he’s adjusting (hissing a bit and trying to show that it’s his territory).

We spent the whole day watching the two of them but we went outside for Friday night hangout with sailing friends, had a yummy bread at SV Ragnarok’s sailboat while drinking rum cocktail and playing Cards Against Humanity (never player this before!) Hahaha!

We still don’t have a name for the kitten.. any recommendations? If our first baby is - Captain Ahab the Sailor Cat.. still thinking of a new one with <blank> the Sea Cat! Can you suggest? (not with Captain, we only have one Captain! haha)🐈🙏

P.S. To all multi-cat mom/dad out there, how was the introduction part? Any tips?
