Kach Solo Sailing Adventures: Solo Trip (without Jonathan) Crossing from Martinique to Dominica (country #103)β΅οΈππ
We left the anchorage in Anse Dβ Arlets by 10:30am on Saturday (June 23) which was our last stop in Martinique (after Sainte Anne and Le Marin for provisioning). By 3pm, we were crossing the Dominica channel which was big seas around 8 to 10 ft. waves (it was rough) and up to 28 knots of gust of wind on our beam reach! The best though is we were purely sailing with both the main & genoa sails up and moving between 9 to 12 knots! Now I really like to have a fast catamaran! π€
We arrived at 9pm and had some weird weather system at the anchorage of Portsmouth in North Western Dominica! Our anchor even wrapped around a mooring buoy so we ended up just letting all the anchor chain up by 11:30pm and decided to just use the mooring ball! β€οΈ
Morning came, a local guide went to our boat and asked if we needed any help! I asked him to bring me to land so I can walk around and attend a Christian Sunday service π They speak English and Creole here.. well, it used to be a British territory! Everything is in English so the sunday worship is all in English!β€οΈπ€π
I walked around town, spoke with the locals.. most of the houses are still damaged after Hurricane Maria last year but they were all nice and smiling.. Though the town or the country is not as βrichβ or modern compared to the nearby French territories.. the people here are nice and friendly (not hustlers!)! β€οΈ
I thought weβll only stay for a night but we ended up staying for 2 nights and left Monday afternoon before we set sail to Iles de Saintes, another island which is a French territory! β΅οΈππ
Definitely a place where we will be sailing on our own S/v Empress after we leave Dominican Republic! β΅οΈ
