Kach Solo Travels Day 26: Walking Around the Beautiful City Centre of Skopje, Macedonia
Do you like traveling to cities or country side?
After 10 days of exploring on my own.. my sister (and her bf) met up with me in Skopje.. just a 5 hour bus ride from Sofia, Bulgaria while they were coming from a 2-hout bus ride from Kosovo (and were in Albania before that).
Skopje is the capital of the Republic of Macedonia, in the center of the Balkan Peninsula. 😍
I actually thought that we’ll not find anything here and would just do a quick stop, catch up with my work etc but then was really surprised after we walked around the Old Bazaar and the beautiful City centre!
As you know, Mother Teresa was born here so they have a place to remember her! In 2014, Jonathan and I visited the place where she served and died in Calcutta, India but now seeing her birthplace is a wonderful experience. I know her since I was a child because my mom was very much into Missionaries of Charity!
Our apartment Moodeight Apartments (Check the Latest Room Rates Here) was strategically located and would only cost 2 Euro or less to go everywhere or we could walk but I was too lazy.. lol! The City centre really looks glamorous.. never seen one like that in the Balkans.. learned that the government did that project few years ago for tourists! You might encounter problems with the gypsy (beggar kids) but you just walk and ignore them.. I felt safe walking around the city but just worried because the kids won’t leave the tourists alone. 😬
Great food for cheap.. surprisingly good night life! The people are really approachable and so far the people we’ve met spoke fluently in English. The men here are easy on the eyes.. they look more Russians and Scandinavians (for me) with the hair, skin color, eyes etc. while the women just like in most of Eastern Europe are ver pretty!! ❤️
So, on our first night here.. we ended up making friends with a taxi driver who brought us to the Macedonian square where a lot of locals hangout to drink then he brought us to the viewpoint (Millennium Cross).. all for FREE?!( unbelievable because he said we gave him a beer) while on our second day, we spent the whole afternoon around the city centre taking photos then experienced the Monday night life.. 3rd day, I went on a daytrip to Kosovo and on our last day, Krista and Kees went to Matka Canyon while I prepare myself to travel to Cyprus (where I am now!)
If you’re hoping to visit 2 countries in one go (Macedonia and Kosovo) then go to Skopje! ❤️ It will be totally worth it.
