MOLDOVAN food - is it good?

Hello guys, we’re still here in Moldova and it’s our 5th day in the country! We have tried so many great wines as Moldova is known for producing some of the best wines in the world. They have a very fertile land so veggies and fruits are abundant here too!

We’ve already visited 4 wineries, different local villages, the Orheiul Vechi aside from going walks around the capital city of Chisinau.

Chisinau is unbelievably clean (just seen the city center), organized, and more modern than what I expected! I will be sharing more photos from some attractions later but let’s talk about their FOOD.

It’s definitely delicious but high in carbs - haha! Since most of the meals are paired with wines too

Moldovan cuisine is influenced by Romania, Russia, Ukraine, and Poland. Like many Eastern European countries, Moldovan food is heavy in meat, potatoes, flour, and cheese.

We already tried so many local foods in the last few days when we visited Mileștii Mici, Asconi Winery, Epoca De Piatra and Chateau Vartely Winery and some from restaurants in Chisinau, so sharing some photos here of some dishes aside from all the grilled meat and homemade sausages we’ve tried!

Mămăligă cu brânză și smântână’ (Polenta with Cheese and Sour Cream)
Plăcinte’ – Moldovan Pie (Jonathan even tried to make one in Asconi)
Cușma lui Guguță’ – Crepes Cake Gugutsa’s Hat (delicious, my fave!)
Zeama’ – Moldovan Chicken Noodle Soup
Colțunași cu brânză’ or ‘Chiroște’ – Cheese Dumplings (we also tried it as a dessert!)
Sarmale’ – Stuffed Cabbage Rolls
Beef Stroganoff (Russian inspired!)

We still have this week to eat more local dishes! Let’s see until I cave in and try Asian food again. Hahaha.

Surprisingly, since there are many American ex-pats living here, there are way more western and Asian restaurants here!
