Life On The Road Day 129: 2 nights roadtrip stopover in Zurich, Switzerland
2 nights roadtrip stopover in Zurich, Switzerland. If you’re visiting Zurich on your Europe trip.. check out 25hours Hotel Langstrasse.
The drive from Gent, Belgium to Zurich, Switzerland via France was much longer than the previous day, about 8 hours. But it was worth the drive to arrive at our home for two nights, 25hours Hotels, a new contemporary property aimed at trendy travellers! 💋
The hotel design has so many cool features like exposed concrete walls, floors and ceilings, art installations and small touches that make you feel at home.
Our room was really cool, with a massive picture window overlooking the trainline and the city outside, a glass rainforest shower in the middle of the room and even a small workspace at the window seat. 😘
We were tired when we first arrived so we just showered and went straight to the bar for a drink and then for dinner in the Neni restaurant - Israeli cuisine!
The next day after a great buffet breakfast we walked (and wheeled) into town via Bahnhoff Strasse, which is the main shopping high street through the historic centre and leading down to the edge of the lake. By the lake we found a huge open-air antiques market full of cool stuff as well as plenty of junk as well!
Somewhere in there Jonathan found an old world globe, something he has been looking for for a couple of years. After buying it we realized it's so old that it still says Soviet Union on it, as well and countries like 'Portugese West Africa', so it's probably from the 1960's or a bit later!
When we got back to the hotel we found a small Asian restarant for dinner which was only a short walk away. I know you’re all wondering why we kept eating Asian food and not European food here.. it’s easy to grab western food everywhere but not Asian dishes or ingredients. We’ve been to these places before and tried the local cuisine.
The only thing left for us to do after that was to try out the hotel's 'Trainspotting Sauna' on the top floor. The spa and sauna facility overlooks the trainline so you can sit in the sauna, watch the trains and enjoy the city skyline all at the same time!
