Surprise Trip: Crewing on a Leopard 46 Catamaran from Martinique to Rhode Island via Bermuda

So this is the surprise, not yet having a baby since we already have Captain Ahab as our little boy! Hihi! 🤗

Few days ago when we found out about this sailing opportunity and Jonathan actually pushed me to get it so I can have more sailing experience (and yes, hindi seloso husband ko when I go alone since kilala nya ako alam naman nyang inlove na inlove ako sa kanya! hahaha😛) Jonathan drove me to Sto. Domingo airport for 4 hours from Luperon to catch my flight to Martinique, it’s not a country but a French Territory to join the crew of s/y Serenity, a Leopard 46 Catamaran with a female skipper!

I was planning not to travel until August but this kind of trip will help me understand and experience longer passages on a catamaran since we plan to buy and upgrade on a bigger boat and cross bigger oceans in the next few years! ⛵️🙏

Jonathan would love to join but we can’t leave Captain Ahab (our kitty cat) on his own for now and he also has his motorbike for exploration! 🏍🤗🐈

I arrived in Martinique with a backpack and full of enthusiasm to learn more about sailing and hoping to add 1800 nautical miles under my belt! I really thought I’d have some issues at the immigration since I only have a Schengen visa (aside from my valid UK, USA, Australia visas) and it’s not accepted here since it’s not “part” of the Schengen (I’d need a French territory visa from French Embassy!) but the Immigration official just smiled at me and told me to enjoy! 🤗🤪

Basically, as a crew, my role will be mostly the “domestic” work like cooking, cleaning and also the night shift watches on the helm! I don’t mind it nowadays after being more “domesticated” living on our sailboat since last year.. hahaha! 🤪 There are other crews on the boat (who are licensed and more experience) I want to learn more technical and mechanical stuff along the way from them!

Our route is this: MARTINIQUE —> DOMINICA (a new country for me!) —> GUADELOUPE (another French territory) —> US Virgin Islands (to pick up another crew member) —> BERMUDA ( a dream place to visit!) —> Rhode Island, USA
